This database project has been led by several researchers associated with Tulane. Satellites have been identified and described through various data-gathering techniques. Archival sources included the transition reports of several mayoral administrations. Legal sources included the City Charter and the Annual Budget, the Louisiana Revised Statutes and the City Code, administrative promulgations, records of the Legislative Auditor and the Legislative Fiscal Office. The Mayor’s Office of Intergovernmental Affairs and the Office of the Inspector General offered lists of entities and verified the ones collected. We used interviews to gather some information and sought additional input through letters and email communication. We culled information from entity websites. The data collection process took place over approximately one year, and a first draft of the information was shared with each of the entities for their confirmation and correction. To the best of our ability, the data we have presented is accurate and comprehensive.
